Alberta’s emerging status as a hub for quantum advancements took center stage at the recent qConnect 2023 event, hosted by Quantum City in collaboration with The Quantum Major Innovation Fund Project (QMP), and at Quantum Alberta’s Research Showcase. With over 250 attendees meeting in Calgary, Alberta, November 15-17, 2023, the summit and showcase served as a platform for exploring and learning about existing and upcoming quantum technologies on a provincial and national scale. As a proud participant in these events, Zero Point Cryogenics, the only Canadian manufacturer of dilution refrigerators, showcased our unwavering commitment to innovation and the quantum future. Representatives from our company who attended included ZPC CEO, Chris Cassin, CTO, Dr. John P. Davis, Director of Sales and Marketing, Elise Usunier, and Marketing Associate, Khoa Pham.
Quantum Alberta Research Showcase:
Zero Point Cryogenics is a new member of Quantum Alberta, a network of academic and industry experts working together to elevate quantum science, research development and commercialization in Alberta. The event featured technical talks from leaders in quantum research from the University of Calgary, the University of Edmonton and the University of Lethbridge. Alberta’s Deputy Minister of Technology & Innovation Hubert Eng spoke about the importance of developing a thriving ecosystem for research and industry alike. The National Research Council of Canada (NRC)’s Director of its Quantum Sensors Program, Peter Mason, discussed Canada’s National Quantum Strategy and programs in place to support research and development. Elise Usunier spoke about the work we’re doing at Zero Point Cryogenics, why Alberta is a great place to build a dilution refrigerator company, and our vision for Alberta’s quantum ecosystem. Further, we learned about the work Telus is doing to prepare for quantum communications, and how Quantized Technologies is helping prepare enterprise customers for post-quantum cryptography.
qConnect 2023:
The conference’s mandate serves to bring together quantum creators and users in a summit focused on connecting Canadian quantum technology entrepreneurs with the industries they aim to serve and transform. Offered over two days was a diverse range of informative sessions featuring industry experts, academia, and government representatives. Our team had the opportunity to learn more about the practical applications of quantum technologies, gaining insights into how these advancements could impact businesses.
Zero Point Cryogenics was featured during the conference alongside notable Canadian companies such as Photonic, Xanadu and Anyon Systems. ZPC CTO, Dr. John P. Davis spoke to the crowd about the importance of a Canadian manufacturer of quantum-enabling cryogenic technology. Our booth in the exhibit hall attracted a diverse range of attendees who took the opportunity to learn about what we are building and access some “cool” ZPC swag like fridge magnets and stickers. Notable sessions included “Turning Quantum Science into Technology (and Why it Matters)” by a friend of ZPC’s, Dr. Martin Laforest of Quantacet, and an educational panel discussion about Quantum Sensing featuring Dr. Erika Janitz of the University of Calgary and Dr. Aimee Gunther of the NRC, among others. On Thursday evening, our team had the unique opportunity to attend a public scientific lecture about Quantum Science and Atomic Clocks by Dr. Jun Ye of JILA, a joint institute of the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the University of Colorado at Boulder. Zero Point Cryogenics actively supports the vision of creating a vibrant economic and scientific hub and the collaboration between academia, government, and industry, as exemplified by the organizers and attendees of qConnect. At ZPC, we believe that Canada’s growing quantum ecosystem is instrumental in fostering innovation and driving economic growth. Zero Point Cryogenics is proud to contribute to this vision, anticipating the continued evolution of quantum technologies and their integration into the fabric of industries worldwide.
Zero Point Cryogenics – Colder for Longer
Zero Point Cryogenics manufactures cryogenic equipment called dilution refrigerators, which are the primary low-temperature platform enabling quantum computing. The company is focused on designing robust and reliable dilution refrigerators to enable quantum technology research and innovation. ZPC is the only manufacturer of its kind in Canada and one of the few manufacturers of this technology in the world. The company is actively bridging the gap between customized and commercially scalable solutions, creating flexibility for quantum research and innovation while having the depth to scale. At Zero Point Cryogenics, we improve and iterate our designs based on customer optimization and are driven to build a product that stays colder for longer.
