We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented R&D Technician to support the design, assembly, and refinement of cryogenic systems and subsystems. The ideal candidate has experience working with precision mechanical assemblies, vacuum systems, or complex technical hardware and thrives in a highly technical environment. Experience in research, aerospace, scientific instrumentation, or advanced manufacturing environments is highly valued.
This role reports to the R&D Lead and works closely with other cross-departmental stakeholders to support prototype development, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
What Will You Do
Under the direction of the R&D Lead, you will support the development and refinement of advanced cryogenic systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assemble and modify cryogenic subsystems and dilution refrigerator components according to engineering documentation.
- Support prototype builds and iterative design improvements within the R&D team.
- Assist with integration of mechanical, thermal, and electrical assemblies.
- Participate in structured testing and troubleshooting to identify performance limitations or assembly issues.
- Document build procedures, system observations, and design modifications to support engineering analysis.
- Collaborate with Production teams to ensure new designs are practical, repeatable, and transferable.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability and assembly quality.
This role requires both mechanical precision and technical reasoning in a highly structured scientific environment.
Preferred Experience / Technical Skills
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Physics, Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical field.
- Experience working with complex mechanical or electromechanical assemblies.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and structured documentation.
- Experience supporting hardware development, prototyping, or experimental systems.
- Familiarity with vacuum systems, thermal systems, or scientific instrumentation is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated documentation discipline and technical communication skills.
Equivalent combinations of education and relevant industry experience will be considered.
